아연(Zinc)이란?
아연은 체내 모든 세포에 존재하는 필수 미량 무기질입니다. 성인 체내에는 약 2–3 g의 아연이 있으며, 주로 근육(60%), 뼈(30%), 피부, 간, 신장, 전립선에 집중되어 있습니다. 철과 달리 체내에 특화된 아연 저장 시스템이 없으므로, 기능적 아연 상태를 유지하기 위해 매일 충분히 섭취하는 것이 중요합니다.

- 면역 기능: 아연은 T세포, 자연살해(NK) 세포, 대식세포의 발달과 활성화에 필요합니다. 경미한 결핍도 면역 반응을 저해하고 감염 감수성을 높입니다.
- 상처 치유: 아연은 콜라겐 합성, 세포 증식, 염증 조절에 참여합니다 — 이 모두가 조직 복구에 필수적입니다.
- DNA 합성 및 세포 분열: 아연 손가락 단백질이 유전자 발현을 조절합니다. 아연은 급속한 성장 기간(영아기, 청소년기, 임신 중) 동안 필수적입니다.
- 미각 및 후각: 타액의 탄산탈수효소 VI는 아연 의존성이며, 결핍 시 미각 감소(저미각증)와 후각 감소(저후각증)가 나타납니다.
- 항산화 방어: 아연은 주요 항산화 효소인 구리-아연 초산화물 불균등화효소(Cu/Zn-SOD)의 구조 성분입니다.
